ANNAPOLIS COUNTY, AUGUST 25, Noon Update:
The Long Lake wildfires complex remains uncontained. Numerous homes have been preserved, but despite concerted efforts, some have sustained damage. A thorough assessment is required to provide an accurate count. Once the information is verified, affected residents will be notified promptly. Please respect their confidentiality.
The wildfire grew to an estimated 7,780 hectares due to yesterday's extreme conditions. The size estimate may be adjusted as more precise measurements become available. Please note that size estimates from other sources are not considered official and may be less accurate.
At first light, crews began clearing downed trees from roadways. Aircraft: six helicopters, six planes plus bird dogs. Firefighters: 56 from the Department of Natural Resources, 62 from Ontario, and 54 local. Heavy machinery is still in operation. All efforts continue to save homes and other structures are being implemented.
