Prompt Provincewide Fire Ban

USPA NEWS - Effective July 30th, 2025, a provincewide burn ban will be in effect by proclamation under the Forests Act. No open fires will be permitted. For further information, please refer to https://novascotia.ca/burnsafe/ A fine of $25,000 will be imposed for violating the burn ban, as outlined in the Summary Offence Tickets Regulations.
At approximately 4:15 pm, on Wednesday, July 30th, 2025, fire crews from HRM and DNR are responded to an active wildfire fire in the vicinity of Big Indian Lake in Tantallon, Nova Scotia.

With the prompt response by fire crews, the forest fire was contained shortly after 8 p.m. Most crews departed the scene at 8:30 p.m. due to the approaching night, but DNR staff continued to monitor conditions overnight. Fire crews returned in the morning to resume firefighting efforts. At that time, it was reported that there was no threat to homes or commercial structures.
As of 11am on Thursday, July 31st, it was determined that the wildfire did not experience overnight growth. It was estimated to be approximately 1.2 hectares (3 acres) in size. Emergency Management continued to monitor the status and remained on standby. At that time, the wildfire continued to pose no threat to homes or commercial structures.

As of July 31 at 4:30 p.m., the wildfire near Big Indian Lake remains contained and is diminishing in size. Nova Scotia DNR is still present at the scene, and Halifax Regional Fire along with Emergency Management teams remain on standby.
